IV VITAMIN C THERAPY
In the 1970s Hugh D. Riordan, M.D. and his colleagues researched and implemented vitamin c therapy as an adjuvant to conventional cancer treatment. He noted in his research that patients with cancer were generally deficient in ascorbic acid and therefore had a reduced ability to induce tumor cytotoxicity, which is essentially cell death.
It was also clear that taking vitamin C orally, even in megadoses, did not increase its concentration in the blood sufficiently to initiate this cell destruction. For this reason, Riordan and his colleagues turned to intravenous administration of ascorbic acid.
Indeed, Riordan´s work led other oncologist to experiment with vitamin C in their practices.
One such oncologist, Victor Marcial, M.D., gave patients with advanced stage cancer between 40,000 and 75,000 milligrams intravenously several times a week. He reported that in the initial stages of the treatment 75% of his patients experienced a reduction in tumor size of at least 50 percent.
“As a radiation oncologist, i also give radiation therapy”, Riordan said. “Vitamin C has two effects. It increases the beneficial effects of radiation and chemotherapy and decreases the adverse effects. But this is not subtle effect, not 15 or 20 %. It´s a dramatic effect. Once you start using IV vitamin C, the effect is so dramatic that it´s difficult to go back to not using it.

What is homotoxicology and in which way does it deviates from the conventional medical approach of the patient and his disease?
Homotoxicology, developed by the German doctor Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg, is the scientific concept behind antihomotoxic medicine. It is a different way of approaching the patient and his disease. The term Homotoxicology is derived from three words; “homo” meaning man, “toxico” derived from toxin or poison, and finally “logy”, derived from the Greek ‘logos’, meaning study.
To summarize, we can describe Homotoxicology as the study of the influence of toxic substances on humans.
In homotoxicology we study the way the presence of homotoxins will influence the functions of the cell and by this the function of the whole human organism. The reaction or rigidity of the defense mechanism against the homotoxin will define the clinical status the patient is in. Symptoms are an expression of the body’s effort to get away with the toxins. As the approach in homotoxicology remains clinical, research has been done on the mode of action of this type of medications.
Homotoxicology is very relied to conventional medicine and very acceptable for ‘open minded’ conventional medical doctors as the working mechanisms behind antihomotoxic medication can be explained in terms of the molecular biological models of this conventional medicine. Raising the body temperature induces an artificial fever, thereby increasing blood Flow and oxygenating the body. The patient´s body temperature is gradually raised to about 105 degrees Fahrenheit, this temperature is maintained for 1 hour, and then over the next hour the patient´s body temperature is brought back down to normal.

Photo Dynamic Therapy
The principle of PDT is based on the use of two individually non-toxic components that are combined to induce cellular and tissue effects in an oxygen-dependent manner. The first component is the photosensitizer, a photosensitive molecule that has affinity to neoplastic cells. The second component is a light source (laser or light emitting diodes - LED), with specific wavelength which activates the photosensitizer. This drug then transfers the energy from light to molecular oxygen, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS). These reactions occur at sites of immediate accumulation of the photosensitizer that absorbed the light. Therefore, the biological responses are activated only in specific areas of the tissue that were exposed to light.

The major difference between SDT and PDT is the energy source used to activate the sensitizers (ultrasound versus light). Due to the short penetration depth of light, PDT is not effective for the treatment of deepseated tumors. However, the significant advantage of SDT over PDT is that ultrasound can be tightly focused with penetration in soft tissue up to several tens of centimeters.
